In its beginnings, the Assumption Province stressed preaching parish missions. It was believed this work was an authentic response to St. Francis desire to preach the need for repentance and conversion. The province boasted a large, qualified, influential and very dedicated “mission band.”

As the Province relinquished its schools, friars found themselves seeking ministerial outlets for their faith. This coincided with many bishops needing help to staff their parishes. As a result, the Assumption Province became more involved in the parochial setting. Today, we are involved in the following parishes.

Many friars, while not working full-time in a parish, provide weekend help to the faith communities in which they live.

“There are some who say that the religious life as such will surely die! The young are aggressively pushing forward with bold ideas that are not clearly linked with the past. They will not survive because they have no roots. And the old are doomed to a very lonely life, because they refuse to make the changes that will make their life meaningful to others today”. So wrote Fr. Dacian Bluma, OFM, Provincial Ministry on May 1972.
